Is a travel agent worth the extra cost?
When planning a vacation, I usually book everything myself online, but last month I tried a travel agent for a trip to Japan and it was surprisingly smooth. They handled the rail passes and some hard-to-get restaurant reservations that I couldn't figure out on my own. Still, the fee added up and I wondered if I could have done the same with more research. Is the convenience worth the extra cost, or is the DIY approach better for most travelers?
