When I organized a neighborhood food drive last winter, I noticed we collected mostly canned goods nobody really wanted, while the local pantry said they desperately needed diapers and pet food. This made me question if traditional charity, built on donations of surplus or spare time, actually serves the community or just makes the giver feel good. Should we be redesigning volunteer work and giving to target systemic gaps rather than just fulfilling our own desire to help?
