Should airlines slow flights to cut emissions?
When I flew from New York to London last month, the captain announced we'd hit 800 mph thanks to a strong jet stream, shaving 40 minutes off our flight time. But I can't help wondering if chasing speed is really what aviation should prioritize right now. Airlines are under pressure to cut emissions, yet faster flights burn more fuel, and the industry's own net-zero targets by 2050 seem increasingly shaky. Is the flying public ready to accept slower flights if it means lower carbon footprints, or is time savings still the ultimate dealbreaker?
