What does it mean to truly understand history when most of what we learn comes from textbooks written by the victors? I grew up in Texas and never once questioned the Alamo narrative until a college professor showed me Mexican accounts of the same battle. Should we be teaching multiple perspectives, even when they contradict the proud legends we've been raised on, or does that just confuse students and weaken their sense of identity?
