Watching my team lose yet another penalty shootout last weekend, I'm convinced that penalty shootouts are the worst way to decide a knockout match. They reward luck over 120 minutes of tactical play, and the pressure on a single player feels more like a lottery than a test of skill. Why not use repeated sudden-death periods or even a count-back of corner kicks? I know tradition matters, but I'd rather see a fairer system even if it means changing the rules.
