Should Cities Discourage Car Use to Boost Walkability?
Urban planning often prioritizes car access, but I've lived in neighborhoods where widening roads actually made traffic worse and killed local shops. The push for more parking spaces seems to ignore that cities like Copenhagen thrive by designing for bikes and pedestrians first. Maybe the real question is whether we should keep retrofitting our cities around the automobile or start planning for people, even if it means short-term disruption for drivers. Should cities actively discourage car use to promote walkability and public transit, even if it angers many residents?
