Urban bike lanes are a waste of scarce street space in most American cities. I've watched my own city install a protected lane that carries maybe 50 cyclists a day while car traffic backs up for blocks. Before we spend more on cycling infrastructure, shouldn't we demand ridership data that justifies the lost road capacity? Or are we just catering to a vocal minority?
