Two years ago I stopped listening to new albums all the way through and I think my taste in music has actually gotten worse. Streaming rewards singles and playlists, so artists spend their budget on three radio-friendly tracks and fill the rest with filler. I've noticed my favorite artists from the 2000s still put out cohesive records, but the new ones I discover barely hold together. Is the full album format genuinely dead in the streaming age, or are we just lazy listeners? I know some bands like Taylor Swift still sell physical copies, but for most musicians the numbers don't lie. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I'd rather pay for a well-crafted collection than get 30 disposable songs a month for free.
