Traveling is one of the most carbon-intensive activities a person can do, but banning international vacations feels like a non-starter. I fly twice a year to visit family 2,000 miles away, and cutting that would strain relationships. Instead of shaming individuals for flying, should governments impose a frequent flyer levy that increases with each trip? That way the occasional flyer stays affordable, and heavy travelers pay more for the environmental cost. But then again, wouldn't that just make flying a luxury for the rich while the rest of us lose access to distant family and opportunities?
