Do therapy apps replace real human connection?
Therapy apps promise mental health support anytime, but I wonder if they're actually replacing real human connection. I used one for three months after my breakup, and while the chatbots felt helpful at first, I eventually realized I was avoiding the hard conversations with actual friends. A 30-minute video call with a licensed therapist costs $100, but my subscription was $15 a month—yet I'm not sure the convenience outweighs the depth. Can a algorithm really understand trauma or grief the way a trained professional can, or are we just settling for a cheaper illusion of care?
