Should we fund early mental health care over crisis services?
Therapist waiting lists in my area now stretch past four months, and I've watched two friends give up on getting help because they couldn't afford private sessions. We pour money into crisis hotlines and emergency services, but what about the quieter, everyday struggle that never reaches that point? If we genuinely want to improve mental health outcomes, shouldn't we be funding early intervention and community-based care instead of just reacting to the worst cases? I'm not saying crisis services are unimportant, but I wonder if we're prioritizing the loudest problem over the most common one.
