The new long-haul routes from our regional airport are great for travelers, but I think they're quietly making short-haul flights less sustainable. When I flew to Chicago last month, the carbon cost per mile was actually lower than the 90-minute hop to Minneapolis I took the week before. Shouldn't airlines be forced to phase out flights under 500 miles where rail or bus is a real option?
