Telehealth visits have become a standard option at my clinic, but after a year of using them for routine checkups, I've noticed my doctor spends more time staring at her screen than examining me. A stethoscope can't travel through a video call, and neither can a proper physical assessment. Are we really comfortable trading that hands-on evaluation for the convenience of not leaving our living rooms? I get that remote care helps rural patients and saves time, but for something like a lingering cough or an unexplained lump, sending a photo seems dangerously inadequate. Maybe the real problem is that we're using telehealth as a replacement rather than a supplement, and that shift deserves more scrutiny before it becomes the default.
