Does the current US tax code unfairly favor wealthy taxpayers who can itemize?
Tax filing season always stresses me out, but I've noticed that people who itemize deductions often end up paying less than those who take the standard deduction. However, the new standard deduction amounts are so high that for many middle-class families, itemizing just isn't worth the paperwork. Do you think the current tax code unfairly favors wealthy taxpayers who can afford to hire accountants to find loopholes? Or is the system actually fair for most people? I'm genuinely curious because I see both sides—some of my friends save thousands by itemizing, while others get audited for small mistakes.
