Are subtitled films always richer than dubbed ones?
Subtitle translations rarely capture the full depth of a film's dialogue, and I think that's why so many foreign movies lose their magic for English-speaking audiences. I watched the original 'Parasite' with subtitles, then again with a friend who only understood the dubbed version, and we had completely different takes on the characters' motivations. Is it fair to say that watching a subtitled film is always a richer experience than watching a dubbed one, or do dubs have a place in making cinema more accessible?
