Street photography is often described as capturing decisive moments, but after five years of shooting in busy cities, I think the craft is less about luck and more about positioning and patience. I've reviewed my best shots—the ones people praise—and most came from locations I scouted beforehand, waiting for someone to enter the frame. The idea that a great photo just happens ignores the hours of standing around, which makes me wonder if we're overvaluing spontaneity and undervaluing deliberate composition in this genre.
