Streaming algorithms turned music into a numbers game, but I think playlist culture is killing the album as an art form. Radiohead's Kid A still works as a 49-minute arc, but can a 15-second skip through 'Treefingers' ever capture that? The album offered context, sequencing, a sense of authorship that a shuffle can't replace. If we lose that structure, do we lose something essential about how music communicates emotion and ideas? I've tried making playlists with similar flow, and it rarely lands the same way. Maybe we should fight for the album's survival rather than accept its decline as inevitable progress.
