Stoicism teaches us to focus only on what we control, but I've found that applying this to my career decisions often leads to passivity. When I stopped worrying about my boss's unpredictable moods, I also stopped pushing for raises I deserved. Is accepting external uncertainty really the same as surrendering agency, or is there a line between ancient wisdom and modern ambition that we're missing? The philosophy feels powerful in theory, yet in practice it can blur into fatalism. Maybe the real test is whether we can hold both the serenity and the drive at once—something my own attempts haven't reconciled yet.
