Can We Truly Control Our Reactions to Loss?
Stoicism is often reduced to a self-help trend, but its core claim about controlling only our judgments is philosophically shaky. If emotions are partly automatic physiological responses, can we truly choose our reactions to loss or injustice? I've read Epictetus and tried the exercises, yet a panic attack doesn't care about my syllogisms. Maybe the dichotomy of control is a useful fiction, not a truth.
