Are soft skills overvalued in tech hiring?
Soft skills like communication and teamwork are often called 'essential,' but in my 12 years of hiring engineers, I've seen brilliant introverts deliver better results than charismatic talkers. We keep pushing everyone into group projects and presentations, yet some of the best code I've reviewed came from people who struggled in meetings. Is our obsession with soft skills actually undermining deep work and individual excellence? I think we've gone too far, sacrificing hard technical ability for a vague sense of social polish, and it's hurting the products we build.
