Are soft skills overrated in hiring decisions?
Soft skills are now listed in nearly every job posting, but I've seen hiring managers pick the candidate with the stronger portfolio over the one who aced the behavioral interview. We treat communication and teamwork as if they're measurable like coding speed, yet they're mostly vibes that get redefined after the hire. Are we overrating these vague traits, or are they genuinely the differentiator that separates decent employees from great ones? I've been on both sides of the table, and I still can't pin down where the real weight lies.
