Is social media an addiction engine disguised as community?
Social media platforms are now the primary news source for over half of Americans, yet their algorithms prioritize engagement over accuracy. I deleted my Facebook app last month after realizing the outrage bait was shaping my worldview more than my own research. If a platform's business model rewards viral falsehoods, can we really call it a 'social network' or is it just an addiction engine disguised as community? The burden shouldn't be on users to fact-check every post while the algorithm amplifies the loudest lie.
