Smartphone cameras have made dedicated photography gear feel obsolete for most casual shooters, but I still think a real camera forces you to slow down and compose better. Last month I shot a wedding with my DSLR while my friend used an iPhone, and honestly, his candids were sharper in low light. Still, the act of deliberately choosing settings and framing through a viewfinder changes how you see a scene, and that discipline carries over even when you do use your phone.
