Smartphone cameras have gotten so good that I barely touched my DSLR during a recent trip to Kyoto, yet I still believe dedicated photography gear isn't dead. The computational tricks in phones produce stunning shots in good light, but they fall apart in low light or when you need a fast shutter to freeze motion. My own concert shots from a phone looked like watercolors, while my old mirrorless body captured sharp images at ISO 6400. Can a phone ever truly replace a dedicated camera for serious work, or are we just fooling ourselves with convenient compromises?
