Smartphone addiction is real, but banning phones in schools entirely is the wrong fix. My nephew's high school tried a total ban last year, and students just hid their devices in bathrooms or used old flip phones—engagement didn't improve, but trust between staff and kids took a hit. Instead of blanket bans, why not teach digital self-control and allow supervised use for learning tools? I admit a full ban is easier to enforce, but it sidesteps the actual problem: kids never learn to manage distractions if we remove them completely. Do we really think prohibition works better than education?
