Is raising the retirement age fair when job demands vary so much?
Should raising the retirement age be the main solution to pension fund shortfalls, or are we avoiding harder choices like cutting benefits or increasing taxes? I've watched colleagues in their late 50s struggle with physically demanding jobs, and telling them to work five more years feels out of touch unless we also redesign those roles. On the flip side, life expectancy keeps climbing, and some countries have already adjusted successfully with gradual transitions. What do you think—is later retirement fair if health and job flexibility vary so much across professions?
