Should people be judged by ability rather than age?
Mandatory retirement ages are quietly being phased out in many countries, yet I think forcing people to stop working at 65 does more harm than good. My own father lost his sense of purpose the year he retired, and his health declined within months. But I also know younger workers struggle to advance when older staff hold senior positions for decades. The real question is whether we should judge people by ability rather than age, even if that means fewer promotions for the next generation.
