Should payday advance apps be required to disclose total annualized cost?
Fintech apps that let you borrow against your next paycheck should be required to show the total annualized cost before you tap "accept." I tested three of them last month on a $400 advance and the effective APR ranged from 36% to over 300% once you count the flat fees and tip prompts. A friend in Manila uses one weekly and swears it's cheaper than her bank's overdraft, which might be true and still not make the disclosure optional. So: mandate it, or does that push people back to payday lenders?
