The rising cost of housing in urban areas has made homeownership a distant dream for many millennials, yet generations before us managed to buy homes on a single income. I recently compared prices in my city and found that the median home now costs 12 times the median salary, while in the 1970s it was just 3 times. Some argue that this is simply market dynamics and that we should adapt by renting or moving to cheaper regions, but is that fair when wages have stagnated and housing policies favor investors over first-time buyers? Doesn't the government have a responsibility to intervene and make housing affordable for its citizens?
