While I agree that students need to see themselves reflected in what they read, the themes in works like 'To Kill a Mockingbird' or '1984' remain startlingly relevant to today's social and political issues. Dropping these books entirely would deprive young readers of a shared cultural vocabulary that sparks critical thinking and empathy.
