Sequels and reboots are killing original storytelling in cinema. Last year I counted over 80 franchise films in theaters, while mid-budget original dramas barely got a two-week run. Sure, some sequels like Dune manage to elevate the source material, but most are just safe bets that drain studio budgets from fresh ideas. Can we really say the industry is healthier when it relies on nostalgia instead of new voices?
