Should screens be banned for kids under 5?
Screen time for kids under 5 is worse than most parents admit, and I say that as someone who relied on it during lockdown. My 3-year-old watched Peppa Pig for an hour daily, and I noticed her vocabulary plateaued until we cut it cold turkey. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no screens before 18 months, but even the 2-5 age limit of one hour feels generous when you see how it replaces real play. I'm not arguing for zero screens—just that the default 'educational apps are fine' mindset is bullshit. Do we actually believe a tablet can teach empathy or patience better than a sandbox?
