Should schools prioritize nutrition over budget constraints in lunch programs?
School lunches are supposed to nourish kids, but my daughter's cafeteria serves chicken nuggets and pizza slices more often than actual vegetables. I checked the USDA guidelines—they require whole grains and fruit, yet the sodium and sugar content still looks like a fast-food menu. Some districts argue budget constraints force these choices, and I get that, but if we can fund sports programs, why not pay a bit more for proper meals? Could a small tax increase or reallocating funds actually solve this, or is the system too broken to fix from the inside?
