Requiring voter ID at polling places sounds reasonable until you look at who actually lacks it — studies show up to 11% of eligible voters don't have a government-issued photo ID, and that number jumps among minorities and the elderly. I've volunteered at polling stations and seen how complicated it gets when people show up with expired licenses or utility bills. Election fraud by impersonation is virtually nonexistent, yet these laws keep spreading. Shouldn't we focus on making voting easier, not harder?
