Does literary fiction truly improve your empathy?
Reading literary fiction makes you a genuinely better judge of character in real life. I've noticed more empathy and social insight in heavy readers, while genre fiction or non-fiction doesn't seem to have the same effect. Is that my bias, or is there something uniquely powerful about character-driven storytelling?
