Privacy is often framed as a trade-off with convenience, but I think companies have manipulated that framing to avoid accountability. My phone knows my location, my searches, even my heartbeat data from my smartwatch, yet I never explicitly agreed to that level of surveillance. The real question is whether consumers truly understand what they're giving up when they click 'accept' on terms of service that are hundreds of pages long. If people were genuinely informed about how their data is used for targeted advertising and prediction, would they still sign away so easily? I argue no, and that's why I believe privacy laws like GDPR are essential, not restrictive.
