Overtourism is now ruining the very destinations we travel to see, and limiting visitor numbers is the only honest fix. Last summer in Dubrovnik, the old town felt more like a theme park than a living city, with cruise ship crowds squeezing through every alley. I've heard local residents say they can't afford to live there anymore because rents are driven by short-term rentals. But then again, I'm not sure blanket caps hurt small businesses that depend on tourism, and places like Venice are already experimenting with entry fees. Maybe we need smarter management rather than outright bans, but something has to change before these places lose their character forever.
