Our local newspaper cut its investigative team from 12 reporters to 3 last year, and now the city council passes zoning changes with barely a whisper of scrutiny. I get that local journalism is struggling, but when we replace thorough reporting with aggregator sites and press releases, who's actually holding the mayor accountable? Isn't a thinly-staffed newsroom worse than no newsroom at all because it gives us a false sense of being informed?
