Should we value separate rooms over open floor plans?
Open floor plans have dominated home design for two decades, but I think they hurt daily life more than they help. In my own house, the open layout means every cooking smell, TV sound, and phone call travels everywhere, so no one gets real quiet or privacy. Studies from acoustics researchers show that noise complaints in open-plan homes are rising, yet builders still push them because they photograph well. Should we start valuing separate rooms again over that trendy 'loft feel'?
