Old buildings in our city often get demolished for new developments, but I think preserving them is worth the cost—even when maintenance runs millions over budget each year. The central library's marble facade alone needs constant repair, yet it anchors the neighborhood's identity and draws tourists who spend locally. New glass towers may be cheaper, but they rarely offer the same character or long-term cultural value to residents.
