Is family care safer than nursing homes?
Nursing homes are often sold as the safe choice for aging parents, but 4 out of 5 facilities in the U.S. are understaffed, according to a 2022 federal report. My grandfather spent two years in one before we moved him home, and the difference in his alertness was shocking. Should we really trust institutions over family care when the data shows neglect is the norm, not the exception?
