Should we keep existing nuclear plants running?
Nuclear power is often dismissed due to waste and accident fears, but I've been looking at the actual numbers and it's the safest large-scale energy source we have after hydro. The waste problem is a political issue, not a technical one, since we can store it safely for centuries. Given that solar and wind can't meet baseload demand without fossil backup, shouldn't we at least keep existing plants running instead of shutting them down prematurely?
