Nuclear energy is often called the cleanest baseload power we have, and I think it's time we treat it as the main solution to climate change rather than a last resort. France gets about 70% of its electricity from nuclear reactors, and their emissions are less than half of Germany's, which shut down its plants and fell back on coal and gas. The waste problem is real, but modern reactor designs and geological storage can handle it far better than the fear campaigns suggest. If we're serious about cutting carbon by 2030, we can't keep dismissing fission because of outdated memories of Chernobyl or Fukushima—both were avoidable with today's safety standards.
