Should fintech ensure in-person services remain for non-digital users?
My grandmother refuses to use online banking—she drives 20 minutes to the branch to deposit a check, and she's not alone. But here's the thing: my city is shuttering physical branches because 90% of transactions now happen through apps. I've seen fintech make credit accessible to people who were previously unbanked, which is great. Yet I worry that as we push everyone toward digital-only financial services, we're leaving behind the elderly and the poor, who may not have smartphones or internet access. Should fintech prioritize convenience and cost-cutting, or should there be a mandate to keep some form of in-person or accessible service for those who can't or won't go digital?
