Are We Expecting Too Much From Young Kids Academically?
My daughter is seven and already cries over homework almost every night, but when I look at my own childhood, I don't remember that kind of stress until high school. Last week her teacher said she needs to improve her reading level by the end of the term or she'll be placed in a slower group. I'm not sure if we're pushing kids to achieve more at the expense of their enjoyment of learning, or if the world really is more competitive now and they need that early start. Do you think we're expecting too much from our children academically, or is this just the new normal?
