Should cities replace highways with parks?
My city is tearing down a highway to build a linear park, but I wonder if that's always the best use of urban space. We keep hearing that removing freeways can boost local economies and quality of life, yet what about the people who relied on that road for their commute? I've lived near both a highway and a park, and I've seen how access to green space improves mental health, but I also know traffic jams affect daily routines. How do we weigh the benefits of walkable cities against the convenience of car infrastructure? Should we prioritize people over vehicles even if it means longer commutes for some?
