My city demolished a 1960s concrete parking garage last month to build a glass tower, and I couldn't help thinking we're erasing the wrong things. Brutalist buildings are ugly to many, but they're also some of the last affordable commercial spaces for small businesses and artists. I say the current demolition wave targeting mid-century architecture is a mistake we'll regret in twenty years, just like we regretted tearing down the old train station in the 70s.
