Municipal broadband projects in places like Chattanooga have shown that publicly-owned fiber networks can offer faster, cheaper internet than private ISPs. I pay $90 a month for 200 Mbps from Comcast while Chattanooga residents get 1 Gbps for $70. If cities can build and maintain these networks without dragging taxpayers into debt, isn't it time we stop letting telecom monopolies hold us hostage?
