I live in a neighborhood filled with concrete blocks from the 1960s, and the lack of natural light and communal spaces makes everyone retreat indoors—social isolation isn't a design flaw but a direct outcome. Sure, these buildings were efficient and cheap, but we're still paying the cost in mental health and community decay. Shouldn't we go back to designing streets and homes around how people actually live, not how sleek they look in photos?
