Is history just a narrative shaped by its writers?
Many people believe that historical events are fixed and objective, yet I've found that the same battle or treaty gets portrayed completely differently in textbooks from neighboring countries. A few years ago, I compared how my school taught the causes of World War I with how a friend's school in Germany did, and the emphasis on blame varied wildly. So, is history ultimately just a narrative shaped by those who write it, rather than a true record of what happened?
